Thesis Statement
My thesis exhibition, “MAKE AI YOUR BYTCH”, confronted the possibility of AI-generated designs taking over our world. While I’m not the biggest fan of artificial intelligence, the reality is that it isn’t going away any time soon. This inspired me to demonstrate why designers shouldn’t rely on an algorithm to communicate a message.
The work involves the manipulation of common signage. I used Adobe Firefly to mash together different signs in a way that disrupts their individual meanings. The results highlight the irony of ”efficient” technology producing impractical solutions. I consolidated my experiments into three books, nine posters, and a large banner that were all on display in Montserrat’s Main Gallery from May 7 to May 10, 2025.
Fall 2024 Process Book
All students are required to submit process books to pass Montserrat's Senior Design Seminar. I completed my first book in December 2024, and it documents everything I worked on from when I started the project to the end of the Fall semester. I was mostly making exploratory work like AI typography specimens and surreal image variations while learning the best ways to optimize prompts. My goal was to learn how Adobe Firefly worked before delving into the meat and potatoes of the project. The evolution during this period is interesting to see, as these experiences ultimately shaped what my thesis would eventually become.
Spring 2025 Process Book
My Spring 2025 process book explains how everything came together during the second half of the year. I committed to the AI-generated hybrid signs when the semester began, so I started planning my show from there. The final book includes the development of my exhibition layout, postcard, and early production photos of my work.
If you’re interested in seeing the full evolution of this project, everything is available on the 2024 Senior Design Seminar Blog.
